La Costa Preserve is a favorite local trail. It a perfect example of what you can do if you plan a trail with some proper foresight. This is not a very long ride (6-10 miles depending on how you work it) but it is some of the nicest single track in the city. A good thing about this ride is that it can challenge the best riders with Hard lines and Easier lines for Intermediate riders.

We will start out going from Camino Junipero up some single track called the "Switchbacks", for a good reason. This trail is about a 700' climb up to the top of Denk Mountain with a semi-gradual ascent to the top. Most if not all sections of this ride have switch backs with "banked" or "in-sloped turns" this makes both climbing and descending better as you can keep and maintain momentum through corners. That is not to say it is easy - it is NOT. The only thing easy about this ride is its length. If you are not a good climber, please pick another ride. If you are not sure, email me and I'll offer advice.

Next we will have our Devotional before we descend the "Vista Del Mar Trail". This trail descends at a relatively gradual grade but at one that allows you to carry a lot of speed down. It feels like a descent much larger than the 700' it is, due to the fact that it is very flowy makes good use of the trail. At the bottom of the trail it lolly pops so that you can climb back up in reverse. This makes 1,400 feet of elevation gain in about 5 miles!

After we reach the summit, once again, we will probably split into two groups. Group A, will go down the "Switch Backs Trail" while Group B will try the more x-treme "Nascar Tail" filled with some jumps and up to 5' drops.
