Arrive at parking lot in Pine Valley 8:15 - Leave 8:30
22-28 Miles with 1800 of gain
Please, no newbies OR beginners on this ride - you will not have a good time. ONLY STRONG INTERMEDIATE XC AND ADVANCED XC RIDERS ARE INVITED!!!! If you are wondering if this ride is for you, then it is most likely not!
For most of us this is a strenuous ride. It is not fair to you or the other riders if an unqualified person shows. You will be exhausted and the other riders will be forced to ride at a slow agonizing pace. We apologize for the firm tone, however some of our past rides had people show who were not qualified. They were devastated, and the rest of the group was bored. This is why RockMTB has rides for ALL levels. By riding at or near your level, everyone enjoys the ride. Please respect this.
If you are not sure if this ride is for you, more than likley it's not. PLEASE check out several additional resourecs below to help you with your decsiion.

This is one of our FAVORITE local trails in San Diego! However, please be aware this is an ADVANCED Cross Country Epic ride. We are adding extra miles with real elevation gain making this a XC ride WITH downhill. For downhillers, unless you can climb like a monkey, this ride is not for you. We are keeping the pace quick and encourage all serious XC riders to join us. For those who are intermediates, the following week, June 5th is a great ride.
We do this loop slightly different than most people. It is part shuttle and part climbing. We meet at the Pine Valley Shopping Center for a shuttle. At 8:30 sharp, we will leave the center driving up Sunrise Highway. YOU WILL NEED AND ADVENTURE PASS TO PARK!!! PLEASE BUY YOUR PASS BEFORE ARRIVING. Passes can be purchased at sporting goods stores, A-16 and REI.
We park at the kiosk when entering Cleveland National Forest off Sunrise. From here we ride up a fireroad and then climb long steep singletrack. At the top, the singletrack drops to fun slightly technical sections. We exit at another fireroad going to more singletrack. This is the best part of the Laguna loop. Fast, swoopy singletrack with views of the ocean. Eventually, well either continue to the Nobel Trailhead for the downhill technical section. This is where true downhill bikes excel. If you happen to be a FAST monkey climbing downhiller, this is where all the work pays off. The devotional will be at the midpoint next to a jump.
Towards the bottom we continue the Cross Country theme climbing up a saddle. From here it is a nice swoopy, descending, very little climbing trail back to town.
Once again, this ride is for advanced riders who love to climb. As a ministry, we have rides for ALL types of riders with a true downhill ride in the near future (Big Bear). By picking the ride which best fits your skills, you and the other riders will be guaranteed an awesome time!
NOTE Helmets are MANDATORY on all RockMTB rides NO EXCEPTIONS.
This includes EVERYONE! The person who left their helmet on the table at home... Please dont put us in the unfortunate position of not letting you ride. We care deeply about everyones health and have seen too many examples of why helmets are needed.
What to bring:
1. Helmet. No helmet, no ride.
2. CLEVELAND NATIONAL FOREST PASS!
3. Water, 100oz is a good idea.
4. Gloves, sunscreen (will get warm), sunglasses.
5. Tubes! Two would be a good idea.
6. Food. RockMTB favorite is PB&J. You WILL get hungry.
7. Your prepped bike. Please go over it the night before and dont forget to lube your chain and pump the tires. 8. Prayer
