Favorite Bike Trails: Local– Anderson Truck Trail. 9 miles out and back, 1,300’ elevation gain, and the sweetest, fastest single-track just 15 minutes away. Try riding it in the morning in the fog, at the top you break free looking down at mountain peaks poking out of the clouds. 

Epic Trail– Nobel Canyon with the Laguna Loop. Ahh, Noble Canyon, just the name Nobel says it all. This 25 mile strenuous trail has it all, Alpine Meadows, Alpine Forests, Canyons, Oak Groves, Water Falls, Creeks, Desert, Cliffs, and best of all – 23 miles of Advanced single-track. Any ride at Noble is always a good ride.

Favorite Food After a Ride: Mexican! Carne Asada Burrito with Jalapenos always hits the spot.

Favorite Bible Verse: Mathew 7:24-27 24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

Best Crash: I call it the ‘Sailor Dive’ crash. You know, when we were kids we did the sailor dive, hands at our sides and dove in the water. I was on this awesome single-track in Woodland Hills going through a rock field. Everything was perfect, I saw the line, was bouncing off and over rocks everywhere, the MO was up and I was in the zone. About ? of the way through, I got this STUPID idea I was going too fast and decided to play it cautious. I broke the cardinal MTB rule, NEVER LOOSE YOUR MO! My front tire rolled over this nice rock but did not have enough MO to go over the next one – OTB for me! I flew through the air with my arms at my sides and landed headfirst on a rock.  If it were any other body part I may have gotten hurt, but since it was only my head, I brushed off the ‘trail frosting’ and had an awesome day. Yes, I kept the MO up! BTW, there is a reason HELMETS ARE MANDATORY ON OUR RIDES.

Favorite Bike Trail: Sycamore Canyon (Medina) to Martha's Grove / Cardiac / Rocky Ridge / Slaughterhouse Canyon.

Favorite Food After a Ride: BANANA’S!!!  Gee what a surprise.

Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Best Crash: Back in the day (1988) I rode my road bike to work. I was a busboy at a restaurant and had to work nights. I was riding home from work one night, the street lights were the only lights I had. I was hauling but down this hill at about 30 mph or so and came to a railroad crossing. I pulled my front tire over the first rail, and came down on the second. The next thing I know, I'm laying on the ground looking up at a street light. Did I have a helmet on? No. I wearily get to my feet to look for my bike and find it in two pieces. Thankfully, I was only two blocks from my house and was able to walk home. The front wheel in one hand, and the rest of the bike in the other. Bleeding profusely from my forehead, I telephoned a friend to have his mother come and clean me up before my mom came home. The bike's down tube was bent in half, never to be fixed again. I ended up at the hospital getting 8 stiches to bring the gash in my forehead together.

Favorite Bike Trail: Nobel Canyon

Favorite Food After a Ride: Fois Gras as an appetizer followed by fresh baby greens topped with wild mushroom Fricassee and a balsamic rosemary vinaigrette on the side. For the main course I prefer a pan-seared halibut with an orange buerre blanc. All finished with a dark chocolate genache torte, and steaming cup of cappuccino.

Favorite Bible Verse: Isaiah 43:5-7 5Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; 6I will say to the north, "Give them up!' and to the south, "Do not keep them back!' bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth-- 7Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him."

Best Crash: It was on the Santa Anna trail in the San Bernardino Mountains and it was my second day with clip-less pedals. I was warned about dry loose sand conditions which I quickly forgot as I tried to follow three much more experienced riders than myself. I had a couple small trial falls and then the big one came. I went over the edge of the cliff, which thank God it was a gently slopping one, nonetheless painful. Later while hurt and tired I proceeded to endo. I’m a little more careful these days, but not much, as I seem to have the same experience over and over and over……


Kyle KennedyName: Kyle Kennedy

Favorite Bike Trail: Santa Anna trail in the San Bernardino Mountains. This trail has it all; great single track, water crossings, long down-hills and a long climb to finish it off. I just wish it were a little closer.

Favorite Food After a Ride: #6 from Jack in Box, nothing beats the Ultimate Cheeseburger.

Favorite Bible Verse: Mark 10:27 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

Best Crash: I have been pretty lucky not to have been involved in any serious crashes, maybe that is because of my great handling skills (yea right). I do believe that a ride without one decent crash or a little blood hasn’t really been a great ride. The most exciting crash I have had was crossing the stream at Padre Dam that became a 4 foot deep river after a rainstorm. When I tried to cross it going about 20 mph my bike stopped rather quickly as I continued over the handlebars and dove into the water. A little stunned I grabbed my bike and swam to the other side.


Kyle KennedyName: David Suter

Favorite Bike Trail: Local – Jackson to Mt. Fortuna and back. A hard climb to the top and fast technical single-track all the way down.
Epic – Most of the trails on the north side of Big Bear Lake. You could go all day and never run out of new trails.

Favorite Food After a Ride: Chicken, avocado and mushroom omelet. Don’t forget the home fries and toast.

Favorite Bible Verse: Proverbs 21:30 There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.

Best Crash: Must have been back in 2000 at Anderson Truck Trail. I thought I was doing myself a favor by getting smaller tires to go faster. I was riding IRC Mythos 2.1 tires. We were jamming down the trailer and a rock caught my front tire on the side and ripped it. It was an instant Pete Rose head first slide. Nothing broken, just a couple good cuts on my elbow and knees and a three mile walk back to the car.


Steve FruitmanName: Steve Fruitman

Favorite Bike Trail: Mission Beach Boardwalk. Just the right amount of exertion, extreme thrills, and near fatal misses with other insane roller bladders, cyclists, joggers families and older people. It's crazy out there! 

Favorite Food After a Ride: McDonalds Happy Meal! I love the toy surprise, what a deal!

Favorite Bible Verses: Psalm 16:1 "...Keep me safe O' God, for in you I take refuge..."

Best Crash: This was a VERY SCARY day. I'm riding my Huffy WAY TOO FAST on the Mission Beach Boardwalk - about 8 mph. The tassels on my handlebars are fluttering in the wind while I point my pink basket (Juice and Happy Meal were inside - YEAH!) through this crowd of parents and children. They were EVERYWHERE! C'mon on, this boardwalk is for everyone, not just families - JEEZE. Due to my extreme speed, I was a bit out of control when this little 6 year old girl turns into me! I about had a heart attack and slammed on my brakes while honking my Red Elmo Horn! Down I go - it was horrible! The little girl was OK, but I skinned my knee real bad. Still, I'm a tough guy and sucked it up - NOPE, no tears from this extreme guy! I learned my lesson that day. Ride safe and slow, words I follow everyday!

Best Crash:  In the summer of 2000 I rode the Downieville Downhill trail on my first short travel mtn. bike. As a fairly new rider I was riding above my ability. Midway down the trail I came around a corner and was faced with an intimidating rock garden and large rock shelf. I couldn't slow down in time, so I just leaned back and hoped for the best. My front tire stopped in the rock garden, and I went over the bars clearing the rock garden and rock shelf and landing about 25' down the trail. I broke my wrist prett bad, so I created a splint using pieces of wood, shoelaces and my camelback. A friend hid my bike in the bushes, and I hiked out to a fire road which was about 7 miles away. I went back the following weekend and retrieved the bike which was still hidden in the bushes. Shortly after that I upgraded to a longer travel bike.

Favorite Bike Trail: 007 Bass Lake Ca. Eleven miles up on fire road eleven miles down on the best singletrack anywhere!

Best Crash: Not crashing and watching your friends crash is the best. 

Mike MaioName: Mike Maio

Favorite Bike Trail: The kind I don't have to work to hard at but STILL can look very good riding. It's not about the ride, but how good you look WHILE riding!

Favorite Food After a Ride: Don't let my slender athletic good looks fool you. Nope, I'm a total junk food junkie. I LOVE anything with gobs of fat and sugar. Nothing healthy for me, just give me spoons of lard and sweets!

Favorite Bible Verses: Jeremiah 4:30 "...though you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, Though you enlarge your eyes with paint, in vain you make yourself fair..." I was told this was a verse for me, but I don't understand. Still, I like the Gold part!

Best Crash: I really don't feel this is relevant. Best Crash? Come on, that is just dumb. What is so good about crashing - you could hurt yourself or WORSE get a scar and not look good! I think this should be changed to BEST RIDE YOU LOOKED GOOD ON! Now I have many entries for that!

Alex McClureName: Alex McClure

Favorite Bike Trail: The best trail that I have ever been on was "Cannell Plunge" in Kernville, CA. As Mountain Bike Bill says, "32 miles of riding on 98 percent single track. 9000 ft of climbing in the first ~22 miles, then 8 miles of awesome downhill single track." Go with a good group of friends, and you'll have one of the best times of your life.

Favorite Food After a Ride: Deep Dish Chicago Style Pizza

Best Crash: I was riding on the 4th of July in the woods near my house. I had only been riding for a few weeks at this point, and I hadn't really hit any big jumps. I found a steep hill with a jump at the bottom that looked pretty fun --was I wrong! I dont remember the time gap in between taking the jump and sitting upright 10 feet away from my bike... but I sat up with a puddle of blood dripping down into my lap, dirt all over me. So I rode my bike home, looked in the mirror, and realized that my chin looked like a piece of raw steak. I proceeded to take a shower, cleaned up a little, then drove myself to the urgent care unit near my house to get stitches.
